How Harmful is a Crested Gecko Bite?

A crested gecko bite is not very bad at all.

They generally have small teeth that are not very sharp, and their jaws are not very strong.

Both leopard geckos and crested geckos can’t break human skin, and their bites don’t usually hurt much. Some even say that crested gecko bites feel more like a pinch than a real bite.

So, they usually can’t break through human skin.

However, a Reddit user mentioned that their crested gecko’s bite once drew blood and left a bruise on their arm.

Warning: While most gecko bites are harmless, it’s very important for children to get immediate medical care if they’re worried about a bite. Children’s immune systems are not fully developed, making it harder for them to fight off infections compared to adults.

Common symptoms of a gecko bite include:

  • Pain.
  • Swelling.
  • Discoloration around the bite.
  • Swollen lymph nodes.
  • Weakness.
  • Sweating.
  • Thirst.
  • Headache.
  • Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
  • In severe cases, blood pressure may fall.

Crested geckos usually bite only when they feel threatened, stressed, or hungry.

You can avoid biting by handling them gently, washing your hands before and after feeding and respecting their space and boundaries.

In general, crested geckos are friendly and easygoing pets that rarely bite, and even when they do, it’s not harmful to humans.

Hope it helps…
