Last weekend, I was excited to show off my new Oculus Quest 2 VR headset to some friends.
The plan was to cast the gameplay onto my Samsung TV so everyone could watch.
But when I tried to connect the headset to the TV, it just wouldn’t show up as a casting option.
After some quick troubleshooting, I figured out a few easy methods to get everything working perfectly.
If you’re in the same boat, don’t worry—I’ll guide you through the steps to cast your Oculus Quest 2 to a Samsung TV, no matter what setup you have.
1) Cast Oculus Quest 2 To Your Samsung TV Using a Laptop
One of the simplest ways to cast your Oculus Quest 2 to a Samsung TV is by using your laptop as a middleman.
Here’s how you can do it:
First, cast Oculus Quest 2 to your laptop:
- Open a browser on your laptop and go to the official Oculus website.
- Log in to your Oculus account.
- Turn on your Oculus Quest 2 and press the Oculus button on the right controller to bring up the Main Menu.
- Select the Camera icon, then choose Cast.
- From the list of devices, select your Computer and hit Next.
Now that your laptop is displaying the Oculus Quest 2 content, it’s time to get that content on your Samsung TV.
Next, connect your laptop to the Samsung TV:
- Plug one end of an HDMI cable into your laptop and the other end into an available HDMI port on your Samsung TV.
- Use the Source button on your TV remote to switch to the correct HDMI input.
- Alternatively, go to Menu > Connected Devices on your TV and select the right input.
Your Samsung TV should now display everything that’s happening on your Oculus Quest 2.
2) Cast Oculus Quest 2 To Samsung TV Using Chromecast
If your Samsung TV doesn’t have built-in Chromecast, don’t worry—you can still cast your Oculus Quest 2 by using an external Chromecast device.
Here’s how:
- Plug the USB power cable into the Chromecast device.
- Insert the Chromecast into an HDMI port on your Samsung TV.
- Plug the power cable into a wall outlet or use the USB port on your TV.
- Switch your TV to the correct HDMI input using the Source button on your remote.
- Make sure both your TV and smartphone are connected to the same WiFi network.
- Download the Google Home app on your smartphone and follow the instructions to set up the Chromecast.
Once Chromecast is set up:
- Turn on your Oculus Quest 2.
- Press the Oculus button on the right controller to open the Menu.
- Select Sharing, then choose Cast.
- Pick your Chromecast device from the list.
The Oculus Quest 2 content should now be casting to your Samsung TV.
3) Cast Oculus Quest 2 To Samsung TV Using Meta Quest App
If you don’t have a Chromecast device handy, you can still cast to your Samsung TV using your smartphone and the Meta Quest app.
Here’s how:
First, cast Oculus Quest 2 to your smartphone:
- Download the Meta Quest app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
- Launch the app and turn on your Oculus Quest 2.
- Make sure your headset and smartphone are on the same WiFi network.
- Press the Oculus button on the right controller to bring up the Menu.
- Select Sharing and then Cast.
- Choose Oculus App from the list of devices.
The Oculus Quest 2 content will start displaying on your smartphone screen.
Next, mirror your smartphone screen to the Samsung TV:
For Android devices:
- Ensure your smartphone and Samsung TV are on the same WiFi network.
- Open Quick Settings or go to Settings on your phone and enable the screen mirroring feature (e.g., Smart View, Screencast, Screen Share).
- Select your Samsung TV from the list of devices.
For iOS devices:
- Connect your iPhone to the same WiFi network as your Samsung TV.
- Open the Control Center (swipe down from the top right on iPhone X or later; swipe up from the bottom on iPhone 8 or earlier).
- Tap on AirPlay and select your Samsung TV.
The Oculus Quest 2 content should now be mirrored from your smartphone to your Samsung TV.
4) Cast Oculus Quest 2 To Samsung TV Using Amazon FireStick
Another option is to use an Amazon FireStick to cast your Oculus Quest 2 to your Samsung TV. Here’s how:
- Connect your FireStick to your Samsung TV and download the Airmirror app from the Amazon App Store.
- Make sure both the FireStick and Oculus Quest 2 are on the same WiFi network.
- Open the Airmirror app and follow the setup instructions.
- On your Oculus Quest 2, press the Oculus button to open the Menu.
- Select Sharing and then Cast.
- Choose your FireStick from the list of devices.
The Oculus Quest 2 content will now be cast to your Samsung TV via the FireStick.
